frankie blankie...

Here is a magical quilt thought up by Frankie magazine and created by quite a few different contributors including myself. My drawing of a wintery hooded lady is up there in the far right panel. I happen to know my picture was embroidered by the very talented Kirsty of Kootoyoo because I randomly stumbled across a work in progress shot on her blog. I'm sure she's glad I didn't put in too many tiny lines. Mel Stringer and Beci Orpin also have squares on the quilt. It is now up for grabs via the Franke website and the winning bid will be donated to the Salvation Army. Have a look here if you're interested:

spring gardening...

I don't know what kind of seasonal person you are? You might be the kind of person who actually likes and looks forward to Winter. Weird. Just kidding. I love Summer! Sun and warmth for me please. I'm reading blog posts, those that come from the northern hemisphere, and they are beginning to talk of a change in seasons. There is mention of catching the last of the Summer sun, an Autumn breeze being felt in the air. Yippee! What this means is that we in the southern hemisphere are about to steal your sunshine. I tell you it cannot come soon enough. 

I'm beginning to plan my spring planting and as I'm going to plant from seed this year I thought a little greenhouse might be a good idea.

Where ever you are, I hope you're looking forward to the season you're heading into.

edge of the page...

One of the things I want to do with my art, more than most other things right now, is make it to the edge of the page. That sounds so simple doesn't it? Well, I have so much difficulty getting there, all my pictures float in white space, it's where they feel most comfortable. I like working towards that balance between the negative and positive space on the page. Sometimes however I would also like to be a little bit more grounded. I wouldn't mind a foreground and a background, you know a bit of depth, that kind of thing.

So, seeing as though I have to create a series of small scale works for the Enormous Tiny Art show I thought it might be a good place to start trying out the edge of the page. Each finished image will be approximately 16cm square, two in progress can be seen above... edges almost covered.

 

tumblr...

I have a tumblr. At first I thought it might be just another way to waste time on the internet, well maybe it is but it's also a great way to find, collect and archive images. I'm an image junkie, I'm constantly trawling the interwebs throwing pictures into my iphoto library. It's one of my most treasured collections but I'm very absent minded in labelling all the necessary details needed to share said images on this here blog. So hello tumblr!
